Kia to replace Sedona with the Carnival, but won’t call it a minivan

Kia’s minivan is receiving a complete makeover with a new title. And Kia won’t be calling the new Carnival a minivan, formally.

Billed as a multipurpose vehicle, the 2022 Carnival is a substitution for the Sedona.

The new title aligns the U.S. with the relaxation of the environment, in which Kia’s minivan has been marketed as the Carnival. In 2020, Kia’s midsize sedan, the Optima, was rebranded the K5 to match the title marketed in other places.

The Carnival will be unveiled Feb. 23 and will be the 1st vehicle in the U.S. to function Kia’s new symbol and badging.

Kia reported the Carnival MPV will force “the boundaries of style and design and innovation to come to be a multifaceted and unexpected companion.”

Based on a preview picture introduced by Kia, it will offer you a few rows of seating, area for 7 or eight travellers and “daring and boxy” styling that resembles the brand’s latest utility motor vehicles these kinds of as the Telluride, Sorento and Seltos.

The changes are created to remain feasible in a marketplace shifting absent from conventional minivans and embracing crossovers and SUVs. Even though the minivan section continues to shrink, it remains a important entry point to some brands for potential buyers, notably people, that want much more performance (feel many cupholders and storage bins), much more versatile seating and a lot easier entry and exit in a vehicle.

U.S. income of the Sedona tallied thirteen,a hundred ninety in 2020, down seventeen percent, putting it fifth among all minivans, at the rear of the Chrysler Pacifica, Honda Odyssey, Toyota Sienna and Dodge Grand Caravan.

The Carnival will be equipped with best-in-course cargo quantity, a 290-hp V-6 engine and progress driver-support and basic safety equipment, Kia reported, such as what it says is a section-unique blind-location perspective keep an eye on.
