What changed over the original Portofino
- Power rose from 591 hp to 612 hp, thanks to new camshaft profiles and a new turbocharger speed sensor.
- The seven speed dual clutch gearbox was replaced by an eight speed unit shared with the Roma. The taller eighth gear helps highway cruising, while the lower gears are spaced closer together.
- The Manettino dial now has five modes, including Race, which was previously thought too extreme for the Portofino.
- The exhaust was reprofiled to offset the effect of the new gasoline particulate filters, so the sound is sharper and louder.
- Magnetic ride suspension is standard and retuned.
- Styling changes include larger front air intakes, new bonnet vents and a bigger rear diffuser.
- New driver assistance equipment and a surround view camera are available.
How the Portofino M drives
In Comfort mode the Portofino M is a surprisingly relaxed grand tourer. The suspension absorbs rough roads well, and the ride is comfortable enough for a long day behind the wheel. Switch to Sport and the car sharpens dramatically. The engine pulls hard to the redline, the gearbox shifts in a flash, and the exhaust note is dramatic. Throttle response feels almost naturally aspirated, with very little turbo lag.
The steering is quick and light, which may feel odd at first on a GT but is easy to get used to. Carbon ceramic brakes are standard, with a progressive feel at low speeds and huge stopping power when you push. It is heavier than the Roma, because of the folding roof and structural reinforcement, but that does not stop it from feeling like a real Ferrari.
Interior and practicality
The cabin is driver focused and luxurious, with an analog tachometer in the center, physical buttons on the steering wheel and Ferrari’s round jet turbine style air vents. The touchscreen is not as quick or polished as those in some German rivals, but the system is more complete than before. The optional passenger display is now touch operable.
The rear seats are best for children or bags. The retractable hardtop folds in about 15 seconds and works at low speeds. With the roof down, the V8 sounds even better. Ground clearance is better than you might expect for a Ferrari, though large speed breakers still need care.

Should you buy a used Portofino M?
The Portofino M was in production until 2023, when it was replaced by newer front engined Ferrari models. Used values depend heavily on mileage, options and condition, so compare current listings carefully. Before buying:
- Ask for full service history from Ferrari dealers or specialists.
- Check the original option list, since options affect values.
- Test the roof mechanism through several cycles.
- Test the gearbox at low speed and under hard acceleration.
- Inspect the carbon ceramic brakes and tires for wear.
- Look for accident repairs and verify ownership and import papers.
- Prefer cars with Ferrari approved status.

Rivals
The Portofino M competes with the Aston Martin DB11 Volante, the Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet, the Mercedes AMG GT roadster and the Bentley Continental GTC. The Porsche is more precise, and the Bentley is more luxurious, but none has the Ferrari’s engine character.
Verdict
The Portofino M is the most usable Ferrari you can buy, and it also delivers the drama of a V8 Ferrari. It is not the prettiest model, and the rear seats are minimal, but it is a car that does many things well. It is a great choice if you want a stylish, comfortable convertible with real performance.
