What is the AMG A35?
It is the performance version of the A Class sedan, positioned above the A250 and below the A45 S. This is one of the most powerful four cylinder engines in production. The US spec car lists slightly lower torque, at 295 lb ft.
How the A35 drives
The A35 is quick but easy to live with. The power delivery is strong from low revs, and the dual clutch gearbox shifts quickly. AMG strengthened the suspension, and added a new rear subframe to stiffen the structure. The car feels composed and well controlled even when pushed hard, and the all wheel drive gives strong grip and stability, helped by a system that can send torque to the rear wheels.
There are multiple drive modes that change throttle response, steering weight, gearbox shifts and exhaust sound. In the sportier modes the ride is firm, and the car has a characterful growl. It is a front biased all wheel drive car, and it never feels as playful as a rear drive sports sedan, but it is far more composed and accessible than the A45 S.
Interior
The cabin is where the A35 feels like a real AMG. You get supportive sports seats, an AMG flat bottomed steering wheel, aluminum sport pedals and AMG specific graphics for the digital cockpit. The MBUX infotainment system uses twin screens and responds to the voice command “Hey Mercedes”. Quality is strong for the class, and the layout is modern. Rear seat space is adequate, and the boot is around 420 liters.
Exterior and design
The A Class sedan has clean, flowing lines. The A35 adds an AMG twin blade grille, a more aggressive front bumper, 18 or 19 inch alloy wheels, a rear diffuser and round exhaust outlets. Optional packages such as the Aerodynamics Package and the Night Package add black trim and sharper details.

Prices change with options and taxes. In the US, the A35 was only sold as a sedan. Canada got both body styles, and they cost the same. In India, only the sedan is offered.

In India, the A35 competes with the Mercedes AMG GLA35, the Mercedes C Class and the BMW 3 Series Gran Limousine. It is more expensive than the standard A Class and less powerful than the A45 S, but it is the most affordable way to get a real AMG.
